Some swells.

The morning whizzed by and I seemed to have done absolutely nothing other than get myself washed and dressed.  Well I had done lots of things but nothing that had an ending.  Progress of some sort I suppose.  So after lunch guess where I went.

I had to give myself a stern talking to and got out of the car.

From viewing this sail boat you can see how the sea was.  One big swell.  Lots of surf too.

So some happy people.

Whatever size of boat the sea is the master.

Talking of swells.  Here are the couple of swells...

The not so very lovely legs.  As winter draws nigh I have no idea how/what to put on my feet as I cant get me boots on.

Lung consultant on Wednesday - hope he has some solution.

I already take a 'water tablet' have done for years.  This swelling is new.  At night feet on pillows.  In the morning a pair of slim ankles.  Upright and gravity takes over.  Any advice? I just wait for the next bit of me to drop off or increase in size.  Exciting int it.

How about some support stockings, Tom has worn them for years and without them his feet swell.

I too have problems with shoes Jill, but it isn't swollen feet. I got cellulitus in my left leg when I was in Wales, (my GP thought it was DVT, and referred me to hospital who discovered what it was). I was put on antibiotics, which cleared it up a bit, my left leg is still a bit swollen, not much, but not as it was and they are tender. If I knock it it's very painful. The cellulitus was never totally cured.

For me my problem is balance (MS) and walking. I have to wear closed in shoes ie lace-ups, which I do in the winter or if the weather is too bad for sandals, which I usually wear in the house. The sandals I wear have velcro fastening around the ankles and on top of the foot. I have had many pairs of these in different colours, just for a change and I have been known to go out in them in bad weather with thick socks on for warmth. They are ideal. I suggest you try a pair of these as I don't think you'd have any problems getting them to fit.

I can't remember the last time I wore boots. Hope you find something suitable for you. It's a real pain, isn't it?

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. Online you’ll find various companies who specialise in adaptable footwear - my father had lovely fleece lined bootees where the tongue and sides all folded back and fastened with Velcro to accommodate his swollen feet and ankles. No sexy but they adapted to the size of his feet and were wonderfully warm. Also companies now make extra wide boots for us fat chicks with a range of ankle widths which might help as they do the same styles in regular fit so you could if willing to buy two pairs, have different sizes for different legs.

There are specialist mail order companies who do extra extra wide fitting boots - you may have seen them but they may not be any good for you. I can give you the names of them if you would like to explore.
I think it is as you say just gravity over the day that makes things swell. Fluids and blood drop into the legs and if you have lung problems I presume your 'pump' is not working as efficiently as it used to.
My DH has an autoimmune problem caused by a streptococcus sore throat many years ago - the consultant said the infection from his throat had travelled in the blood and had collected in his legs through gravity and caused the problem.
Perhaps you will need to put your feet up in the day more. I also believe that massaging can help reduce the swelling - it works for my friend with the same problem but you would definitely need to check this with your consultant.

Hope a solution is found to the swelling. Support stockings may help?

I wear compression stockings every day. I also have an AFO (ankle-foot orthotic) that I have to wear on my almost dead left leg (MS). In order to accommodate the AFO, the only shoe I have found is a lace-up leather SAS, Freetime model. It has a large toe box that allows the foot in the orthotic to fit comfortably in the shoe. It's not very attractive, but it has allowed me to keep walking. I have the shoes in white, light tan, and black. It comes in all widths to suit various foot issues. Not sure if you could find these in the UK, but you could order them online from the States or find a comparable type there.

Good luck.

You have such wonderful photographs and drawings.. I don't know about advice for your feet except resting with them up and there are web sites advertising wide shoes.
