Rattray Head Lighthouse - mystery explained.

Remember this photograph?  With the mystery figure on a supposedly unmanned lighthouse?   At 4.20.a.m.

Which then disappears?

The lovely Rob and Val run the bed and breakfast and eco hostel in the ex lighthouse keepers cottages.

So I contacted them.  Their reply.....

There is an explanation; it's just the lightkeeper's ghost who appears now and then!

Ha, ha, ha.  No, it's just the workmen who have been staying on the light for several days at a time over the last few months.  They have changed the light mechanism from the old rotating one to a static cylinder of LEDs that just flash on when required.  I know it's progress, but now we don't get the light sweeping across the dunes any more, just three brief flashes every 30 seconds, tut.

So there you go, not only an unexciting result but the lighthouse will no longer be as magical.  Huh.

Thanks to Rob and Val at www.rattrayhead.net
(Christine you can now sleep easy!)

I like the ghost idea ! Mum lived in an old coastguard house at Penmon on Anglesey for years. One visit, I noticed the bell wasn't sounding - no one else had ! I guess you get used to anything ! It was soon put right & rather lovely though mourneful.

I much preferred the notion that it was the lighthouse keepers ghost ;)
